Hello Platt and Jon,
well in fact my second answer to Jon's question has gotten a bit too
sarcastic, I guess. I honestly try not to take any of your
administrations actions to be also the opinion of any american citizen,
automatically, but Jon raised his question again in such a way (which
nation does the world needs most?), that in his opinion only one answer
was possible. As such it was a rhetorical question and I felt compelled
to conceive it as a real question. Being quite evasive in my first
answer, I tried to speak more directly in my second. What I wanted to
try, was to show that this question could very well be a subject of
discussion and the unspoken answer not being a given, untouchable,
so-to-say heavenly principle. As a matter of fact, the USA is undoubted
the nation that is the most unabdicable. But to derive from this, that
all US-lead actions are - in a way - godgiven, seems not right to me.
Assuming, that this has been also said - implicitly - and reacting
suspicously to any nationalistic utterances, I felt challenged to
contribute to this thread. In that sense it may be that I had misread
Jon's article.
Of course it was right and important to destroy Nazi-Germany and I'm the
last one to speak against this. I am not any kind of revisionist and one
must not forget, that not all Germans had been supporters of the
Hitler-regime. I have pointed out repeatedly what I think it was worth,
in former threads that dealt with this or a related topic, for example
in my first article to this thread.
[...] Americans: There are many things you can be proud of - that's
true. It's for example your historical important role concerning WWII
(Making me thankful), your ability to economical and technical
innovations, your political impacts on Europe (especially Germany).[...]
But you must admit, that this aspect makes it apparently difficult for
me (and also german politicians and other european leaders) to utter
critical opinions. For that reason I normally stay away from such topics
and this is partly also the reason for being rather passive on this site.
I hope I made my intention and position a bit clearer and wish you a
merry chistmas and a happy new year.
Greetings, JoVo
