To Doug, Anders, Magnus, Bo, Platt, Dave, and TLS
Many, many, many thanks for your thoughtful and insightful comments.
Instead of replying individually at this point, I am going to try and post
the work-in-progress I'm doing that makes use of them.
I'm looking at the leader-follower relationship. Here's my starting concept:
"The leader/follower relationship is a social pattern that utilizes the
non-social behavior or insight of one person to mediate the social patterns
of a group, giving freedom from the constraints of static social patterns by
creating new ones."
This piece started out as a "reaction paper", a homework assignment in a
Group Dynamics class. Although I suspect it might be quite different before
I'm done, I'm leaving it in that form for now.
You guys are so clear on explanations that I have taken your exact words in
many cases. At this point, I'm not even trying to deal with attributing who
said what, as that seems like an issue for later--just so you know.
In most cases, I took your advice, in some I have gone counter to it. I
hope that if, after reading, you still think or feel differently than I do,
you will push back. I'm trying to hammer out something, and there's still a
lot of hammering to be done.
I'm going to try to post an HTML version directly to the group under LS Re:
Leader-Follower. The piece centers on a rather wordy table, so the
plain-text version really stinks. I am afraid of wearing out my welcome by
screwing up everyone's mail, but I honestly don't think there's any way to
make the text version readable.
As always, I'm looking forward eagerly to any reactions you might have.
Thanks,
Maggie
