Well, we are talking about Mozart here. For someone to compose like he did,
at any age, would be considered 'gifted.' Whether or not he could discuss
the theory behind the music at that age is something I really can't address.
I've read more about his later years than his early years. Something else
that should be considered is the quality of these early works. I've never
heard them so I don't know what they sound like. Are they any good? I'm not
trying to be argumentative but Mozart has so much 'celebrity' that it can
blur our perceptions of his work. When I was young, I was a huge fan of John
Lennon, thought he could do no wrong. But as I grew older, I realized that
some of his music wasn't all that good and some of it was terrible! Even the
best are capable of the worst. Just food for thought.
