Horse, Platt, All
Logical conclusions ?
No. The limits of logic have been reached.
It's time to go elsewhere.
The local PBS station just finished a segment titled "Holy War?"
My comment, muttered to myself , was "Why the question mark?"
Look where "logic" can lead.
I just, quickly, finished the sixth addition of "Islam" a "concise study"
of "Islam
as a world religious, cultural, and political force" updated and
republished in 1999 by Caesar E Farah (which I recommend for a quick overview)
With this and my complied past experience I "logically" conclude:
1. The acts of Sept 11 and the reaction of the United States is a
continuation of a complexed conflict of socio/political/religious values
that started in the tribe of Abraham over 2000 years ago and has
continued ever since.
2. This conflict now has the potential of becoming a worldwide, full
scale, no holds barred, no quarter given, WORLD WAR. With the probablity of
Christians on one side, Muslims on the other, Jews (as always) in the
middle, and all others obliged to choose one side or the other.
3. Because the underlying static socio/political/religious values of
these tribes are so old, ingrained, widespread, and dearly held a
dynamic advance to "better", more moral systems may only be possible
through complete or near annihilation of one, all, or most of them.
4.And, it ain't gonna be pretty.
This is my optimistic view. A conflagration so large and debilitating
that those humans left become completely and thoughtly convinced that
there must be a "better" way.
My pessimistic view is that this won't happen; now. This conflict will
continue to simmer and muddle along, like it has done for the past 2000
years, until there are more people, with even more inflexible positions,
greater levels of war making technology, and then we all pursue the
self-fulfilling prophesies of Armageddon to THE HEAVENLY END.
This is what I 'logically" concluded from looking at the current
conflict, the historic events that have led up to it, and the past
tendencies of humankind.
But, hopefully my "logical" conclusions are wrong .
So how about some "illogical" methods.
You see I agree with both Horse and Platt. The dove, Horse (I think)
feels that the
current US actions are wrong and will not lead to long term peaceful
resolution and probably will just make it the problem worse.
I agree.
The hawk, Platt (I think) believes that based on these actions , by any
moral or legal code including Islamic, the current US actions are both
necessary and justified.
I agree.
He also thinks that if we stamp out the terrorist "germs" the problem
will be over.
I disagree.
Given my paradoxical position, What action would I take?
Give'm exactly what they want. Withdraw.
While still in a state of war, plan, approve by national referendum, and
execute a long term tactical economic, social, cultural, political, and
military withdrawl from all countries with an Islamic majority or
socio/political rule. And at the end of this withdrawal tell Israel
they're on their own too.
I could go on with these "logical" chapters and verses all which
culminate in vast plains of irradiated glass.interpersed with pieces of
"chemistry professors left out on rocks".
BUT, LOGIC OR ANTILOGIC DOES NOT GET IT!.
The question is, not, "Any logical conclusions?" but
ANY "GOOD" IDEAS?"
