Hi M!
M:
Glad to see you midweek. Holidays?
R:
Thanksgiving. It is an American holiday where folks like Platt and I get
together with our loved ones and eat turkeys and give thanks to our ability
to bomb the be-jeezus out of innocent 3rd world nations. (Sorry, I can't
stop myself some times)
M:
And you are right. The only problem is that the process of globalization of
markets and armies can't be reversed. Either we ride it, or we suffer it.
Well, it's not me the expert of federalism here. USA have a federal
govt./justice/parliament/police and local matching powers. This is the right
way to have one only nation leaving the possibility for a certain local
diversity. Well, I guess the only solution for the globalised world is to
have a superior level for all that. But actually we have one market (WTO) and
one army (NATO) without one justice, so the system lacks of balance.
Comments?
R:
I agree with some agreed-upon global rules and some process of carefully
rewarding/penalizing rogue states/corporations/groups. We need to be REAL
careful here though. The problem with over-centralization is the elimination
of one great source of competing ideas and of competing standards (for the
connectivity performance of the system rather than the nodes).
Evolving systems have invariably had competition (as well as cooperation
btw). We need to find a way to accomplish both cooperation and competition
in a globalized context. Perhaps the world of the scientific method would
give us a worthy competitive/cooperaive model to learn from? Hmmm?
Interesting thought....
Ciao,
Rog
