Hello all,
I think there are limits at how much advertising can manipulate you. Your best
defense is the use of logic. Most of the advertising manipulation works on
conditioning- association of pleasant stimulus with their product.
But there has been research showing that this manipulation works more for
products that appeal to our emotions. Sexy models will help sell cars,
perfume, etc but are less helpful in selling refrigerators, printers, etc .
If you look through ads you can see how advertising differs in products that
have more luck in appealing to our reason or emotion.
If you see cute little puppies running around Hoover vacuum cleaner you can
counter the manipulation by analysis of their technique.
