three (the birth of science) predates the Enlightenment.

Well, technology goes way back. But the scientific revolution is part and
parcel of the enlightenment insofar as it was tied up with extending
political and intellectual freedoms to guys like Galileo and Copernicus.
Their persecution by the church led to re-evaluations about certain kinds of
truth, which led to the formulation of the scientific method, etc.

And I should add that I regret using the words "chuckle" and "snort". I was
just trying to duplicate my immediate response to Erins remarks and I was
trying to deliver the correction in a light-hearted way, but the effect has
been the opposite.
