it have to be this way?

No, not at all. I agree with your perspective and, in fact, I don't think it
really is this way today. I think that what successful societies do today is
some mixture between the freedom, dynamicness and distributed control of
capitalism accentuated amply with much of the compassion, foresight and
ideals behind democratic versions of socialism. I would hope different
countries continue to evolve better versions over time.

PS -- I have VERY ecclectic musical tastes -- blues, jazz, rock, soul and
classical. How about you?
