But, though there are static patterns of change, change is not a static
pattern. It is not itself observable, rather it is a word in my
metaphysics. (Also, Pirsig sometimes used the word "stable" instead of
"static". I don't think he meant to imply that "static patterns" were
absolutely fixed. Every bite of an apple is slightly different, but that
does not keep us from noting a similarity.)
