Dearest Platt,
I think there have been enough interpretations of chapter 24-chapter 22 and
the whole of Lila on this site, regardless of the purpose. I am not
interested in enlightening anyone on how I interpret Lila. As you well know,
chapter 24 has nothing whatsoever to do with MY comments on American
culture. I never once said a thing about the beat generation or hippies. My
specific examples came from a history of Blues and Jazz. If you cannot
disassociate these high-quality art forms from the 60's generation, I cannot
enlighten you. In fact, it has never been my intent to enlightening YOU.
Your certainty of "truth" is a value I am envious of. In your world, it is
of high value and better left alone. It serves a "greater vital benefit" to
your reality. As William James said, "Far be it from me to deny the majesty
of this conception, or its capacity to yield religious comfort to a most
respectable class of minds." I don't have any quarrel with you nor desire to
engage you in debate. I have already broken my vow to let you have the last
word. So again out of deference to your seniority, I bid you good wishings.
Sincerely,
Andy
