Ever seen a seedless watermelon? What about all the varieties of tomatoes
now available. Breeds of dogs. These are examples of human experiments
with the theory of evolution. Now evolution results in new species through
the process of natural selection over a long period of time. In these
cases, humans select the desirable qualities to create new breeds. Carry
this on long enough, and new species of watermelons will arise.

An example of a more "random" human application of natural selection is
destruction of habitat, such as the rain forests. The species that live in
such destroyed habitats either adapt or die because they do not have the
desired traits to live in a new environment.

The scientific method applies to experiments. The experiments are used to
test theories resulting in data in support, alteration, or outright
rejection of the theory. The experiment and outcome of the experiment is
what is supposed to be repeatable, not the theory.
