Hi George, (Platt too if you want to understand why Evolution is bona
fide science),
GEORGE
Methinks [Squelch] and Mr. Marder are mixing up genetics and evolution.
Sure,
genetics can prove some facets of evolution. However, the entire
process
is beyond scientific reproduction. You cannot scientifically prove, in
reproducible fashion, that I evolved from an ape, let alone primordial
ooze. That's why they call it a theory.
======
Actually George, it's DR. Marder, the doctorate is a Ph.D. in life
sciences.
I know what the theory of evolution is, and I also know what constitutes
a scientific theory.
It appears to me that you know neither.
Nothing ever proves a scientific theory. There is no "entire process"
that can be fully verified.
This is called Goedel's Theorem - Goedel proved mathematically that you
can never verify all your assumptions.
The only way to test a theory is to test its predictions. If the theory
makes no testable predictions, then according to Popper, it isn't a
scientific theory. The theory of evolution makes many predictions:
Inheritance and mutation were inferred (i.e. predicted to exist) well
before the molecular mechanisms were discovered (Darwin knew nothing
about DNA and genetics).
Evolutionary Theory predicts the emergence of antibiotic-resistant
bacteria, pesticide resistant insects and herbicide resistant plants -
all of these predictions verified.
Evolutionary Theory predicts that you have more in common with a gorilla
than with a locust - MOLECULAR GENETICS CONFIRMS THIS.
George, I challenge you to provide one example of a (valid) prediction
of Evolutionary Theory that has been disproved.
(I should warn you, people have been trying to do this, without success,
since Darwin).
Jonathan
