Yankee-baiter. Everybody complains about the weather, but nobody does
anything about it ;)
Seriously, these are things that I would have done in the last couple of
years, or would do in the future, if I could advise presidents/candidates:
First, I could have gotten Gore elected had I been his campaign manager.
A week or two before the election I had the idea that an aide of his
should have "leaked" to the press that Gore was considering Nader for the
top spot in any one of a number of departments: Environmental Protection,
Energy, Health and Human Services.
If I were president today I would stand up to Ariel Sharon letting him
know he is as much to blame as Palestinians in that he has seemingly
provoked all this violence (so ex-President Jimmy Carter wrote in the NY
Times a few months back). If this might make it too difficult for my
political party in the future, I would step down after one term, allowing
someone else from my party to be nominated, a la Lyndon Johnson.
I could go on and on. Industrial cultivation of hemp: 1 acre produces as
much paper as 4 acres of trees, and can be re-grown year after year. Gun
control: for crying out loud, more people are killed by handguns in a
typical hour in the US than are in a typical year in the UK.
Maybe Europeans should give us a taste of our own medicine: interfere in
our politics. Help fund a third party.
What's your solution?

George
