Hi Rod,
My own background, as I mentioned in my 2nd essay and
in an email on the consciousness thread, is being
raised as a Reform Jew. Generally consider myself
that. I attend High Holiday services and occasional
Sabbath services. Would attend more, but I do all my
writing on the weekend morning and so there is a
conflict between my writing and going to synagogue.
Synagogue has lost for the past 5 years. I add I was
at one time thinking of becoming a Rabbi, couldn't
learn Hebrew, which ended that career. I call myself
a student of the Kabbalah. I've studied it but I
don't actually practice it. I am a lousy meditator.
I can and do get into a trance-like state when I am
writing my novel,or working on essays, or researching
and even writing some of these e-mails. I believe we
are all connected to the Divine, a spark of the Divine
is in us all as a result of creation. That spark is
our part of the cosmic soul/spirit. Plus I feel a
strong connection to Taoist philosophy. Do feel that
when we die our divine spark and our own individual
soul/spirit returns to the source. No individual
after life for us. No resurrection. Though not sure
about reincarnation. Generally don't think so, but do
think some people can tap into prior time frames,
perhaps we share a collective unconscious -- Jungian?
Pirsig fits well with Lao Tsu's Taoism.
My last form of spirituality is out of researching for
my fantasy novel 6 years ago I took some classes in
Wicca/Neo-pagan Tradition called Reclaiming. the book
the Spiral Dance began that Wiccan Tradition. I have
been meeting with a circle of four other woman ever
since.
