Hello. I've only recently begun reading these...debates. But it doesn't
take much to see the primary motivations of a struggle when one views it
from the outside. Squonk, you are demonstrating the most garrish and
self-indulgant display of jealously I have ever seen in a man over ten. As
eloquent as you try to make yourself, you are obvoisly envious of "bo's"
sucess, and seek to gain status of your own in the same manner which you
accuse him of using- felling the master. If his refutation of Pirsig gained
him renown, you seek yours in this ceasly criticism of the new "captain."
I came to this group hoping to find a thoughtful and provocitive discussion
of the Phillosophy of Quality, a forum for the free exchange of ideas and to
promote mutual growth and understanding of Pirsig's principles. What I find
instead is rediculous and incessent infighting, and quibbling over obscure
textual trivialities. I must say that I am somewhat irritated to have to
wade through ten or a dozen e-mails filled with nothing but personal attacks
and selfish bickering.
This kind of academia is the very institutionalization that Pirsig CONDEMNED
in our society. What discussions of Quality do take place are conducted in
the Aristotalian modes that so enraged and disheartened "Phaedrus." You
claim to pursue Quality, but fail to present Quality arguments. It is no
wonder Pirsig himself retired: he lived to see his revolution
institutionalized- the worst thing that could ever happen to a visionary.
Well bravo, academia. Bravo Aristotle. Your imprints have not been, and
seemingly never will be, escaped.
