Roger, isn't this statement dialectics?

I've taken the liberty of slightly modifying your chart so that the
cells
actually reflect the value (in this case 1x1=1 is the best, 4x4=16 is
the worst).

[Modified from Roger Parker's original chart]

                                PATTERN A
PATTERN B Adv N/C Harm Dest
            Adv 1x1 1x2 1x3 1x4
            N/C 2x1 2x2 2x3 2x4
            Harm 3x1 3x2 3x3 3x4
            Dest 4x1 4x2 4x3 4x4

To keep things simple, I've kept the two patterns as equal value, but
this can be changed if necessary. For instance, if Pattern B is
considered twice as important, then we would double the first digit in
each cell. You could also modify the chart by increasing the number of
rows and columns.

Even so, I think the chart fails
>"to analyze moral arguments with
>greater precision than before".

I'll illustrate this with a simple example.
Let's say that Pattern A is a match and Pattern B is oxygen. Strike the
match, and both patterns are destroyed - score 16, the least moral
outcome possible. But the reaction itself is a new pattern. If the light
from the flame stops you from falling into a pit, then that is a
positive (moral) outcome.
I'm not completely sure if it will work out, but perhaps a
multidimensional chart could handle this scenario. However, I suspect
that this approach would quickly become too complicated to be useful.

In my opinion, classical dialectics works better than the chart.
Sometimes the Synthesis allowing progress is the mutual destruction of
Thesis and Antithesis (as illuminated by the match example).

Roger, I look forward th the new synthesis.
