fintan, this last summer while studying at Oxford, i went on a pilgrimage to
Newgrange. something called me forth and it was the culmination of my
travels. have you been there?
it was fascinating to enter into the prehistoric passage tomb and touch the
real carvings made by people so long ago. it makes me wonder how
differently these people saw reality.
the spiral carvings on the rocks were their perception of the sun's journey
during the year. Newgrange seems to have been constructed to highlight the
moment when the sun appears to return and stop its northern process so it
heralded the coming of spring.
trying to get inside the heads of prehistoric humans is for me a way of
understanding the MOQ since it shows us how we can "perceive" reality in
many different ways and illustrates how our own perception today, SOM, may
be just that, a perception not reality.
you should go to Newgrange if you havent yet. i know i want to go back to
ireland.
