Mary (and Glove and Bodvar),
You are absolutely right. I think increased choices are the same as
increased good.
My problem with the "good" as I sometimes see it used on the squad
implies that someone or something is out there choosing what is good and
what is not good. In other words there is an intelligence guiding the
direction of the development of the universe. If we accept this it gets us
into all sorts of unexplainable situations from which there is no escape
except into deep mysticism. I just prefer the universe to be coherent. In
my opinion this approach does not do violence to Pirsig's Quality
construction. In fact, I think it strengthens it because it then rests on a
fully coherent process. The Universe is still unexplainable because of
complexity but now that mystery rests on a foundation of predictability
even though we can't see the details of the process because the choices
have gotten so numerous and complex.

Bodvar,
I have come to terms with my own interpretation of the MoQ and am
satisfied with it. I will quit bugging you with my ideas. I still think
that all of the discussion of the interaction of the various levels is
futile because I think that the evolution of the universe and humanity is a
seamless whole which cannot be separated into levels in any coherent way. I
think that Pirsig constructed the levels in order to be able to discuss the
problem at all. Have fun with your discussion. I will be watching with
interest. Ken
