COMMENTS TO MARY AND A NOTE TO BODVAR
Mary:
Pirsig says there are 4 static levels with 5 moral codes mediating
them. He never explicitly states what 'category' the moral codes
fall into - whether static or dynamic, only that they act to resolve
conflicts between the levels and between static and dynamic quality.
My sense is that they are equivalent to the forces of value you refer
to, Glove. The patterns of value would be the static levels
themselves, while the forces of value would equate to the moral
codes. Is this in line with your thinking Glove?
Glove:
no, not really, although i can see your point, and it is well made. moral
codes exist in each of the four static levels in seeming
opposition to each other. moral conflicts arise as a result of this
"perceived" opposition, but because we do perceive the moral conflicts, they
are not Dynamic forces of value, or "creation" and "discreation". however,
the conflicts may arise from the action of these non-conceptual forces of
value precessionally, or at right-angles, to the actions of Dynamic Quality
(force of value) upon our static quality reality. they would then appear to
be irrelevant in such case until the meaning of precession is understood.

Mary:
Not sure I understand the question. How the intellect imposes itself
is via subject/object logic. But I don't think this is what you are
asking?
Glove:
actually i forgot to include "super" in front of impose, which may not seem
like a big mistake but looms very large when discussing intellect level
functions. my entire arguement is based on the assumption that the intellect
level does NOT super-impose itself upon the other levels via subject/object
logic (a social level function in my "book"), as that function is governed
exclusively by space-time and causality assumptions. the intellect level is
"outside" of constraining values of space-time and causality, and thus its
ability to "super"-impose itself upon our "experienced" reality, which
includes all four static levels of everyday reality.
note to Bodvar:
Bodvar, your last email on value force (1/8/99) is giving me much difficulty
in answering (a real rarity for me!) but i am working up a response,
hopefully which i will send along within the next day or two, should i deem
that it is of value.
best wishes
