Hi, Fintan.
As everyone knows ...
NOBODY expects the Spanish Inquisition! Our chief weapon is surprise ...
surprise and fear ... fear and surprise.... Our two weapons are fear and
surprise ... and ruthless efficiency.... Our *three* weapons are fear,
surprise, and ruthless efficiency ... and an almost fanatical devotion to
[Pirsig].... Our *four* ... no ... *Amongst* our weapons.... Amongst our
weaponry are such diverse elements as fear, surprise.... I'll come in
again.

I guess Magnus and I must be chopped liver, since we're the only members of
the MOQ Online steering committee not implicated as members of this
supposed inquisition. However, I'm sure this post will change that.

Gee, Fintan, tell us, who *will* we be censoring?
Or was that a rhetorical question?
Ah, I guess it was, since we haven't been censoring anyone, as evidenced by
the continued transmission of your inflammatory posts.
Nor, I think, will we.

Papal excommunication? Very colorful, if baseless. Bodvar spoke as a member
of moq_discuss, not as a steering committee member. With all due respect to
him, his comments did seem overly harsh to me, as well, but not outside the
range of debate. In any case, Struan is still here, Bo is still here,
everybody is still here, all still communicating. No one has been cut off,
unsubscribed, excommunicated.

I salute your humanitarianism. Few have the sense of right or conviction to
undertake such acts.
However, I am still troubled by your continued conflation of serious issues
with matters of only everyday importance. The Spanish Inquisition, the
Holocaust, the 'ethnic cleansing' in Bosnia. How in F*CKING HELL are these
atrocities in any way comparable to our current situation?
We're starting another discussion group on the MOQ. That's all. The new
Lila Squad will be moderated. MOQ_discuss will remain, as in its current
incarnation, open, unmoderated. Some of us prefer structured discussion. (I
unabashedly count myself in that camp.) Some of us prefer little. People
should have a choice and we're trying to provide that. We're impressed by
the growth of this discussion group and we anticipate much more growth as
interest in Pirsig's philosophy continues. For all of these reasons, we're
setting up a second discussion list. Join if you like. If not, continue
here. It's your choice.
Call me too static for wanting a structured discussion--I accept that. I
value the dynamic and want to see that preserved here. I can't handle the
pace and variety of discussion, though. I've tuned out the current
discussion because of my limited attention span. That's my personal
bias--that's why I support the reincarnation of a moderated discussion
group. Having such a structured group doesn't take anything away from the
more dynamic moq_discuss, though. Both are needed. Balance is needed ...
Anyway, I really haven't laughed this hard in a while. I do enjoy
hyperbole, though I prefer Dave Barry, who I'm sure is just kidding.
Who wants ginger snaps?
