Hi, Lilaqs!
Boy, for someone who was going to go away I sure spend a lot of time on this
stuff. I stayed away for a couple of days and missed it immediately. My wife
is mildly miffed at me, I think.
I understand Kilian's frustration.
No Kilian, it's not really a function of age. For a look at REAL chaos you
should check out a forum dealing with politics and religion that I follow
and to which I occasionally post . For supposedly educated, mature people,
the level of hostility on the forum is truly amazing. Most of the regulars
seem to have staked out positions and defend to the point of near logical
absurdity.
I don't believe I have ever seen anyone ever change his or her position on a
subject. In fact, a certain number seem to relish the cyberspace equivalent
of schoolyard brawling. (I like to occasionally tweak a cyber-nose myself.)
Even more interesting, a substantial number of contributors hold advanced
humanities degrees and more than 85% are college graduates.
Interestingly enough, virtually no women post to the forum. A sister forum,
moderated more closely, has a much greater proportion of female posters -
and it is a sports forum for men's basketball. Imagine that.
A statistic I found interesting is that the preponderance of internet users
are male. I wonder if that has anything to do with it?
