Investigating the nature of quality is the obvious place to begin, but I
would like to see it phrased around a more specific question. Just
thinking about it briefly I find I don't know where to start. The
problem we've had with program questions in the past has been that we've
made them far too wide. Questions like "what is morality" or "what is
dynamic" are fine in themselves but there is so much to say and so many
ways to answer that it's difficult to focus.
how about:
Is the mystic reality of the universe really more immanent in the
higher-priced cuts of meat in the butcher shop?
Or for us vegetarians who feel nauseous even thinking about it, a meat
free version:
Is the morality of the universe higher in business class or coach?
Okay, maybe they sound mundane but, hey, I'm brainstorming so anything
is allowed. I'm trying to learn from past mistakes (ie being too
general). In answering something like the above (or in finding what's
wrong with the question) we'll still be forced to examine what Pirsig
meant by quality, morality and reality but we'll keep our feet on the
ground. And, when we do come to examine the big questions at least we'll
have a better understanding, ie an understanding *based on our own
personal experience* of the concepts we're dealing with.
Remember the section in ZMM where the student comes to Pirsig when she
can't get started on her essay. He tells her to forget trying to write
an essay about the whole town and just describe one brick on one
building and take it from there.
