Come on now, David! You knew the answer to that one before you wrote it
! ;) What's the difference between intellectual freedom and
social/biological freedom? Galileo never killed anyone with a
telescope, and Manson never made any contribution to humanity by killing
innocent people. The Hippies were just confused. They couldn't see the
difference between intellectual and biological freedom, that's ok
because they served a greater purpose. The center has changed in this
country. The median line dividing conservatives and liberals has subtly
shifted to the left as a direct result of the upheavals of the 60's.
Who and what were middle-of-the-road in the 50's? Who and what is now?

Society swings like a pendulum. In the 60's it swung far to the left,
then a backlash swung it far to the right again (Reagan et al). I fully
expect to see it swing several more times before I'm gone. But that's
ok too, because with each swing the energy of one side or the other
causes the center of equilibrium to change (not a good analogy but you
know what I mean). The majority - the mainstream in America now
believes in the right of women to choose. Isn't that amazing given that
in the 50's this wasn't even a fit subject for discussion?

Progress results from upheaval.

Yours,
Mary

PS: Where's the rest of your 'sermon' on the MOQ? Maybe I should just
invite you down here to be the guest speaker? (hugs)
