Matt,
I did not wanted to respond initially and I do not know if it is of any
relevancy but I was reading an article on a classical music composer called
Pierre Boulez who is a Debussy adept. In this article the classical music
tradition is discussed and it says there are two kind of traditions. One is
where the traditions are passed on and the change takes place gradually from
generation to generation, the other tradition is one where the fundaments of
the traditions are considered and are more radically changed. So they both
have the same starting point, the traditions, the fundament, but as said in
the article the first approach changes the way of the river gradually, the
second approach causes an earthquake changing the course of the river by big
steps.
