Hey Chuck,
Last post...

mel:
The existence of free will negates the possibility of hand-waving
helpless evil, as far as I can see.
Four years of philosophy classes and I NEVER could grasp
how anyone's formulation of the P.O.E. made any sense at all.
It always seemed to boil down to some leap of faith.
Some variant of...
People have free will
Bad things happen to people
Therefore t'ain't a god
(Little voice that should play in the Philosophers' head:
Whine, whine, whine little human. If the universe doesn't
go the way you think it should it's someone's fault and so
you pout and piss on the floor to change it...) sorry!
It looks kind of like:
If we exist and have free will, then for most of our actions on
most of the levels recognized by MoQ, most of the time, the
existence or non-such of a god is an argument without merit
or affect. (I haven't thought of all possibilities, most may be all.)
Otherwise as Jon Dietsch sez:
Take heart, hell is your safety net ;-)

I am harassed, therefore I am....

Thanks, I look forward to continuing this later...
thanks--mel
