    Greetings.

Painting appeals to me because it moves me to an interesting
perspective. Sometimes I move close to an edge, that is, my edge. It's
one thing to talk about it, it's another to experience it.

Mark 9-8-04: Hi Marsha, This is because the edge is Dynamic! Best not think
about it too much and as you say, experience it.

I was graced to spend ten days in Madrid. I went to pay homage to
Velazquez and Sorolla. While there I spoke to an interesting man about the
Catholic religion in Spain. He told me they worshipped a the feminine via
Mary and the saints, going to them more often than the male
representatives. It's true, but something felt wrong with this idea. When
I found the words, it was that women were not represented fully.

Mark 9-8-04: This is very interesting. Northrop's The meeting of East and
West explores the transfer of this view into South American culture. There, Jesus
on the cross is not worshiped, but the Virgin Mary is. That is why she is the
icon found displayed in cars, keyrings, little alters, and all the rest of
it. I feel the feminine is worshiped because it is more Dynamic. On the AHP93
tape, Pirsig muses as the whether the masculine/feminine biases between cultures
is their source of conflict, mistrust and hatred.

What would be a word to represent everything-is-connected-to-everything
    be?

Mark 9-8-04: Holistic. Traditionally a feminine point of view?

What kind of emotions would it carry?

    Mark 9-8-04: Compassion.

Could it rise above all religions?

Mark 9-8-04: It's what religions teach but no one observes. Brazilians love
music and painting and art and care. That's why the US hates them.

What kind of insight might it offer?

Mark 9-8-04: A not insubstantial one!

Would it contain empathy, compassion, hope, and strength?

Mark 9-8-04: Very much so i should think. One would have to be so inclined as
a Brazilian to suffer the atrocities the US has imposed upon them. (Oh dear,
this is all getting a bit political isn't it? Noam Chomsky you see.)

I think of archetypes. A meme sounds like some kind of archetype. How
does one loosen a system of SD when it is unhealthy, or of low quality, or
needs to move to a higher level of SD?

Am I making sense to anyone?

    Mark 9-8-04: Yes.

    MarshaV

P.S. Has anyone read 'The Social Construction of Reality' by Peter L.
Berger and Thomas Luckmann? I've put a strange collection of ideas into my
head. (All this talk of religion has me painting an angel.)

Mark 9-8-04: No, i've not heard of it as far as i can remember.
    All the best,
    Mark
