    How is it that I "know" I'm right when I say ..

    A petard is a slow burning fuse hanging from a grenadier's belt,
    when every dictionary or encyclopedia I can find says a petard is a grenade.

    (BTW Popper's answer is fine, if the question was science,
    which just about excludes life, the universe and everything else.)
