And this year's winner for most names dropped in a single day,..
is Matt the Enraged! (the crowd goes wild.)

    Matt:
Thank you, thank you! Really, you shouldn't have. <takes trophy> In fact,
I have something to confess. The names I dropped were, in fact <delicate
    pause> stripped from the e-mail I was replying to. <crowd gasps> I know, I
know. Maybe I coulda' been more forthright in directly stating something
like, "I'm using these names because DMB threw them out there," or
something of the sort, but I apologize. I went with it being implied, but
I was wrong. Deeply, deeply wrong. I'm so, so sorry. I, I...<tear slides
down ceek> I can't do this anymore. <runs off stage to the murmurring of
    the crowd>

    But seriously, all these names
and isms would probably score some points on a test, but I was looking for
    the ideas behind them.

    Matt:
Yeah, as should've been evident, I'm not offering a course on "The History
and Context of Pragmatism" this semester, I was simply trying to give a
teasing introduction to people who cared. To properly lay out all the
ideas and names and isms would take an entire University course (or more)
with an accompanying reading list. I can offer teasers and intros, point
people in the direction of what the reading list might be, but a properly
laid out course on the history and context of pragmatism is beyond my time
(and abilities, for that matter). I could offer a closer intro to most of
the names you helpfully dropped for us, but I usually respond better to
politeness and the desire of people who want to know what I might happen to
say. I'm not saying that what I say has some special significance. It
certainly doesn't. But it differs from something you, DMB, might say, or
what Platt or Glenn might say. I always try to be helpful when people ask
me questions about what little I know and I tell them what little I know
and point them in the direction of where they might learn more. When I get
the feeling that people are just waiting to pounce on anything that comes
out of my mouth, even when they ask for a summary of something I might know
a little something about, I get a little hesitant about saying anything at all.

If you don't want teasers, I'm sorry, DMB, I truly am, but that's all I can
offer the discussion group most of the time. Like most people, other
things tug at my time and you'll just have to be satisfied with what I
give. If you aren't, I can't help that.
