Sam,
I was surprised by the root meaning. It sounds sooooo static. But, of
course, static quality is not intrinsically bad. I feel neither bound to
or unbound from my culture. I do think at the moment Western culture is
mostly in a harmful state. I also think that those who have had spiritual
responsibility for the culture should be held accountable.

Wasn't Jesus supposed to have gone into the temple to chastise the
money-changers? And after being at the mountaintop, Jesus was not content
with the status quo. In terms of a different mythology Jesus would have
shouted "The Emperor has no clothes!!"
