    Hi Sam,

I hope you don't mean me! I know from our many discussions that
your frontal lobe is perfectly in tact.

A recent comment by Ham made me realize he thinks I'm against
religion, or that I somehow hold religious people in low regard. I
want to make it very clear that I am NOT against religion. I believe
religion provides a vital cultural connection for millions and
millions and millions of people, and, if it helps people behave,
gives them comfort, and provides a sense of community and cultural
fullfillment, then I'm all for it. I honestly don't care what people
believe, I care what they DO, when what they do negatively impacts
    the lives of others.

Although there's a real and present danger when religious
institutions, or individual zealots, acquire political or military
power, the same danger arises when ANY cabal of blinkered thinkers
are permitted undue influence in any society. Take a look at the US
    today.

The point I've been trying to make with Ham is that religious belief
systems, to the extent that they rely on faith, are very different
from scientific or philosophical systems. To deny this is pure
    confusion.

Anyway, looks like I'll have more free time over the coming weeks, if
you feel like getting back to our discussion of power and politics.
We should probably check with Erin first, however. :-)

    Best,
    Mark Steven Heyman (msh)
