Hi Folks, DMB, Case, Rebecca, David H, Matt, Mark, Ant, all mentioned ...
DMB I too am with Rebecca on needing the negative social interaction
as part of the experience. We need heat too - I'll say - previously I
was defending Ad Hominem as part of the rhetorical game; hedonism and
black humour are everywhere, thank god ;-)
As far as long posts go, I see you (DMB) in the same bag as Matt, but
I accept both your honesty and quality of creative writing, and don't
see it as an excuse to hurl personal abuse at either of you,
explicitly or rhetorically.
The Rebecca / David / Case disagreement seems to be based on a
misunderstanding of Rebecca's quip about "relativism" ;-) which was
being used as a euphemism for "relationism" I believe, hence the winky
smiley. But the issue of any "absolute" morality really is the issue
raised here.
The reason I picked on Mark's post (at Bo), I could easily have used
Ant's post (at Struan), is a question of honesty and integrity. I
think there is a line we must not over step in this, a public forum.
(Search engines have long memories.)
Amongst friends, generally pro-MoQ friends, our thick skins can
clearly stand a great deal of abusive heat (and I'm all for it, in
context, in moderation, to make an honest point.) Going forward, I
believe we need to be scrupulously consistent in sanctioning
gratuitous personal abuse, with no obvious (even rhetorical or ironic)
honest point in debating the MoQ, not just "between friends", but
involving gainsayers in public too.
I'm glad to see no-one of us is for any draconian ban on personal
abuse per se, but I do believe Mark (and Ant) recently overstepped a
mark, in ways that I suspect non-pro-MoQ-insiders might have received
tougher sanction or censure in response.
Bob was extolling "fairness" in his introduction to the MoQ Conference.
