Dear Don (drose),
In reply to my suggestion (10 Mar 2004 23:32:28 +0100) of an 'Idols'-like
competition between religions on this list you wrote 10 Mar 2004

'I suspect you'd have a difficult time finding a working definition of
religion everyone could agree on, much less come to a consensus on
"good-better-best."
It should load-up the inbox though...
I know a Morman and an evangelical I'd love to invite to the discussion.'
The interesting thing about the 'Idols'-model is, that the voters don't need
to agree on a definition of music/religion, nor on the criteria for
good/better/best... Exchanging definitions and criteria IS useful, but only
as a way to influence other people's votes (and as a model to present one's
favourite religion, but everyone presenting a religion is free to choose
his/her own model). In the end both 'music'/'religion' and the 'idol' (the
'best') are simply defined by the number of votes.
Please do invite your Mormon and your evangelical.
In my 10 Mar 2004 23:32:28 +0100 summary of the preceding discussion you can
find some descriptions of 'religion' and some criteria for the 'best' one to
start with. Feel free to use another definition and other criteria.
(Preferably shorter definitions than Webster's one, reproduced by Leland 10

I see it as a practical test of the validity of the MoQ: Like the test
Pirsig subjected his students to according to 'Zen ...'. Do we really
experience (what is/has/is had by) Quality or not?
With friendly greetings,
Wim
