Agreed.

Pirsig: He felt that the solution started with a new philosophy, or as he saw it
even broader than that- a new spiritual rationality- in which the ugliness and
the lonliness and the spiritual blankness of dualistic technological reason
would become illogical. Reason was no longer to be 'value free.' Reason was to
be subordinate, logically, to Quality, and he was sure he would find the cause
of its not being so back among the ancient Greeks, whose mythos had endowed our
culture with the tendency underlying all the evil of our technology, THE
TENDENCY TO DO WHAT IS 'REASONABLE' EVEN WHEN IT ISN'T ANY GOOD. That was the
root of the whole thing. Right there. [capitals added]
Pirsig: If you want to build a factory, or fix a motorcycle, or set a nation
right without getting stuck, then classical, structured, dualistic
subject-object knowledge, although necessary, isn't enough. You have to have
some feeling for the Quality of your work. YOU HAVE TO HAVE A SENSE OF WHAT'S
GOOD. *That* is what carries you forward. [capitals added]
So I would disagree, as I believe would Pirsig, "good" should not be removed
from the dialogue.

Vrods are pretty cool, but I favor the "classic" cruisers. I hope you find the
time to ride again, gravel or no. :-)
