The question isn't "Explain the role of mysticism in the MOQ?"
The question isn't "What is the central theme of the MOQ?"
The question isn't "What is mysticism?"
The question isn't "Give us your 2c about mysticism?"

The question is "Re-read the first three chapters of LILA and discuss
what Pirsig is saying and what it means"

By the end of Chapter 3 all that has happened is that Pirsig has participated
in a peyote ceremony. However, during that ceremony he becomes caught
up in an intellectual comparison of native American and European cultures.
That's all that happens.

I know it's tempting to go ahead and discuss the whole book but
that rather defeats the purpose of the excercise. It was suggested that
we take the major themes of the book one at a time, but we decided
against that because it was considered preferable to contemplate the
elements of the MOQ IN THE ORDER that Pirsig introduces them.

But chapter 3 Pirsig simply hasn't come to any conclusion about
mysticism, and this whole European vs Indian thing looks like a
red herring to me. If anyone wants to disagree with that please do so,
but do so with reference to chapters 1,2 and 3.
