Not so much a conflict as a contrast .
But Oh , what a contrast !. Pirsig is dead right about one thing :
The Key lies in the centre of this contrast .
A contrast in so many ways that you cannot count .
This can only be seen by someone who has stepped outside both
cultural patterns and is free of both .
It is almost AS IF someone or something a few thousand years back
switched off ( or attenuated if you please ) the Right Brain of the
Europeans and the Left Brain of the Indians.
That kind of contrast.
There are however two things common between the two :
1) Both are human beings
2) Both exist on the same planet.
Both are creatures of nature , not of some Metaphysics :
Metaphysics can only be a tool to get to the Key .
The Key is Freedom.The goal of Freedom is Creativity .
One can get this Key only if one's Totality is free that is , the
Physical Self AND one's Spirit is free.(If one believes that there is
such a thing as Spirit )
This is not a key that one can get and the other loses .This is a
key that is available to all . But only if there is life.
The Europeans & Americans are generally speaking Physically free
but only they can ask their hearts and minds if their Spirit is free.
The Indians have lost their Physical Freedom ,
but their Spirits are still somewhat free.
The ones that are still living are also looking for the key,
but they are not Physically Free.
They are depending upon the Good side of Americans
and others on this planet to set them free.To set them free will also free
the Spirits of others .But there is no space or lifestyle conditions left
for them.
This planet is dying .Fast . Even the scientists and the 'ologists cannot
deny it .

Looks like it .Probably .But then maybe not .Thats life. Nothing is certain.
Maybe an Irresistable Spirit will be able to move an immovable object.
It will be fascinating to watch .
But some Mystic (whatever that means)or Metaphysicist is bound to say:
"Hey, whats the big deal ?
This planet is bound to die someday . 10 years , 100 years,
a million years , whats the difference ?. Time is an illusion , Right?
So get your ass off this All American Metaphysical Highway.
This place is about Metaphysics and Mysticism not about saving this planet
Or about Indians .

Wrong place I guess. How did I get here in the first place ? A Spirit that
once saved my life tells me to go here and there .This Spirit also told me
to check out this place .I 'll just tell this Spirit to send somebody else.
I thought this place was about an inquiry into morals .At least the
legend on the cover of the book said so .

Maybe morals and values are also illusions.
And there was the picture of a beautiful looking Key.
I'll just look for it somewhere else.
I'm feeling feverish. I dont think I' ll be back . Unless this Spirit forces
