MF Giant conspiracy theories

Horse, 3WD and all: I believe in conspiracy theories. I'm sure they exist
because I've seen the paranoir X-Files and I've heard Art Bell's Dreamland.
And the theories are true, even if they don't exist in any literal sense.
There is a Dynamic truth behind these paranoid dreams. Even the reports of
alien abduction are real, even if there is no such thing as a flying saucer.
The mere fact that thousands report it is itself the fascinating thing.

"He had come to think of dreams as Dynamic perceptions of reality. .. The
static patterns of the dreams were false but the underlying values that
produced the patterns were true. In static reality there is no octopus
coming to squeeze us to death, no giant that is going to devour us and
digest us and turn us into a part of its own body so that it can grow
stronger and stronger while we are dissolved and lost into nothingness. But
in Dynamic reality?"

"Later he saw there was: this Giant. People look upon the social patterns of
the Giant in the same way cows and horses look upon a farmer; different from
themselves, incomprehensible, but benevolent and appealing. Yet the social
pattern of the city devours their lives for its own purposes just as surely
as farmers devour the flesh of farm animals."

Wow. "The city devours their lives". The Big Apple eats people. Run for
your lives!

This ain't no monster movie. There is no Lex Luther plotting world
domination. But Hitler was real enough. Rupert Murdoch is a real guy, but
also the model for the bad guy in a James Bond movie, which was true enough
in its own way. Its a difficult thing to be accurate about because the
"metaphysics of substance makes it difficult to see the Giant." The "secret
cabal of capitalists" is a kind of natural fiction, it Dynamically
represents something real, like a myth or a dream. Specifically it represent
the force and purpose of the Giant. Its devouring nature isn't limited to
those OTHER social patterns like Victorian or Communist patterns. Even in
the modern free world, in the "most Dynamic place on Earth", even New York
City is "the brain center of that corporate network, surrounded by other
networks:" ...etc.

If I understand 3WD's stance toward the Giant, he's saying that resistence
is futile. You will be assimilated. He's giving voice to the wishes and
purpose of the Giant. And of course it can work in no other way. People have
to believe that they are acting in the right way and in their own interests.
The Giant's consumption of your life involves no actual grinding of the
teeth, but rather it occurs as a kind of acquiescence to or identification
with the Giant's values by actual individuals. Some folks more than others,
but no one is immune.

Take Chomsky's MANUFACTURING CONSENT for example. His critics insist that he
is a conspiracy nut, but no one who's actually read it could come to that
conclusion. Noam says flatly that it is NOT a conspiracy in the media.
Instead, he says that the very nature and structure of media produces a
certain bias. That built in bias effects the news we get. I think even more
interestingly, that same bias selects the kind of person who will be
successful within the media. The guy on your local news station is NOT given
instructions to do trite, overly-sensational crap. But if he does anything
else, he's not going to get very far in the biz. ETC. And every "biz" works
that way, each with its own particular purpose. Even guys like Rupert only
serve a thing much more powerful than themselves.

Here's the kicker. Everyone is a part of this beast (666) to some extent,
except for the occaisional savior or saint. And that's not a problem UNTIL
these social patterns come into conflict with intellectual quality. Then
acquiescense is immoral. To favor a lower level value over a higher level of
quality is - well - its the closest thing to evil within the MOQ.

In static reality, there is no actual devil who will buy your soul with fame
and riches. But in Dynamic reality?
