Good post by Marco who will not read this.
I agree with almost all of what he said but would like to throw some stones
into the clear, blue MOQ pond.
The question at hand can not be answered because DQ and SQ can not, and more
important must not, be compared.
If anyone out there does not agree with this, please help me by telling me
which parameters of Quality can be compared to both.
Please let me explain the way I see things.
DQ is lifes moment and movement. The intellect can only be aware of DQ's
output = SQ. When Mr. Pirsig states that writing a metaphysique is, seen in
the strictest sense, a form of degeneracy, he supports this.
Ken Wilber wrote in "A brief history of everything" that by taking a
certain point of view the world actually does change. It is not just a
change of perspective it is a change of experience.
DQ is life -the 'here and now' and IMO Big P is saying it is GOOD to take a
point of view which embraces the here and now - attention on the NOW. (This
goes along with the immanent stimulation of the reader to take part by
bringing in his own thinking - meaning bringing in his own moment - bringing
in his own DQ)
So you start by being your own dog seeing through your own eyes. What you
see can be taken and formed into POV's. You realize - this is fun. It does
not matter which kind of material you use in the beginning. What counts is:
You turn the now into Your own moment by using what you have gotten, the way
which is best.
(This is IMO an indirect hint of Big P's enlightened state of mind - he
trusts us in a very deep sense of the word - once we are independent,
becoming aware of our own potential everything will be GOOD. Do You remember
how he turned the english lessons of his pupils in college into 'moments of
their own' just by getting rid of hypnotizing grades.)
Mr. Pirsig wants us to turn our lives into moments of our own by taking a
certain attitude towards life. DQ is the best because it is YOUR option, the
only thing alive and this quality can not be compared to something already
there.
So You enter the game by being aware of Your potential. You play and after a
while You sense a platform helping You and limiting You at the same time.
You would like to have a different platform and You compare what You have
done to other beings work.
Granted I talk about faith now, but as Cory wrote in his 3.7.00 mf post
(which I found excellent btw)
- " Any beginning has its own end, pre-ordained, if you will, built right
into it by very virtue of being. "
Starting with such an, for lots of people never felt attitude one has a good
chance to experience a (hopefully life long) winning streak by doing only
three things.
Knowing and looking after your own virtues.
Making yourself known to others as good as possible.
Having as much respect for the POV's of others as to your own, by assuming
that they are made with the same fervour and passion.
So the real motorcycle is a cycle called 'Yourself'. You start with the
direct experience of DQ, as much as You can, and in an constant change
between working in Your own garage and interplay with others You manage to
listen closer to the godhead in Your inner self.
May You, dear reader, find a GOOD tool today,
Andreas
