I wanted to submit my quick feelings to the list.
First, for those of you who haven't tried out Wiki in some form or another
by now, you're -really- missing out on an intriguing internet experience.
I've passed along Dave's MoQ Wiki pages to other non-MF-member qualicists,
and thankfully he's posted those addresses. The reaction, tho the content
may be simple initially, has been a collective, "Ooooh", once the
technology's potential is grasped.
Second, in my -long- experience with Wiki (at http://c2.com/cgi/wiki), there
has been absolutly -no problem- with content being erased. Graffiti maybe,
but content loss, no. (And if content loss somehow occurs, this can always
be 'undone' easily.) This 'addition only' mindset just becomes a common
courtesy in Wiki communities. The -only- person who edits content is the
author. If in doubt, most comments, if interesting, are left alone - often
removed by the commentor, lest their old stagnant thoughts reflect poorly
upon them. And eventually, once a page gets hairy, content may be -moved-
to a cleaner, more specific page, but nothing gets lost in the process.
So the Wiki-Edit fear-mantra is a herring. It sounds bizarre, but this is
the practical effect of an open, intelligent community. Hallelujah... human
nature for once doesn't let us down.
So get to Dave's pages and put your 2 cents in. It's as easy as clicking
the "Edit Text" button. Go ahead... Dave doesn't mind at all.
