Hey Kenny,
Hope you don't mind if I field these out of order....

KENNY:
..."What about Asians?" Would it be "better" to make is *four* firemen? Or
five? What about fire-WOMEN? How diverse should it be?

RICK:
All good points.... I have been unable to locate any statistics that
indicate
any female or Asian firefighters were killed... However, if any were, it
certainly would not offend me if the monument was adjusted to reflect their
sacrifice as well. I can't imagine why any reasonable person would be
offended....

>KENNY:
> I think this "monument"al discussion is going the wrong direction. I
see a lot of bickering over whether a statue ought to be "politically
correct" (allegedly a social value) or "historically accurate" (allegedly an
intellectual value)...

RICK:
I certainly hope this comment isn't aimed at me. I know for a fact that I
never have (and never would) use a trite, meaningless worn-out catch-phrase
like 'politically correct'. Moreover, by casting the question as
'political correctness' vs.. 'historical accuracy' you've fallen into the
same trap Platt has in that you've pre-assumed that a statue with 3 white
firefighters is somehow more 'correct' or 'accurate'. This claim is
untenable (as I've already gone to great pains to show Platt) and is solely
a matter of personal judgment.

As the rest of your comments are predicated on this bogus distinction.... I
think that's all I've got for you.

thanks,
rick
