Dear MF participants,
"Does Pirsig's work help us to sort out the distinctions between metaphysics
and the mystical reality?"
Superficially: yes. Reality is (valued) experience. Metaphysics is names
about reality.
When you go deeper into it things become complicated however: According to
Pirsig writing a metaphysics is a degenerate activity when seen from the
perspective of mystical experience. Seen from within the MoQ (which
distinguishes 4 levels of static quality plus Dynamic Quality) a metaphysics
(including the MoQ...) is on the highest level of static quality (the
intellectual level) and mystical experience points towards Dynamic Quality.
It still helps me to sort out things, but the picture becomes very
complicated and I'm not sure it will help anybody else, who is not very well
versed in MoQish to sort out the distinctions between metaphysics and 'the
mystical reality'.
With friendly greetings,
Wim
