Can I ask everyone to observe usual newsgroup practice and be respectful
of threads.

For those not familiar with the wonderful world of Usnet. The way it
usually works is that someone raises a topic and chooses an appropriate
subject heading. All subsequent posts on this topic are made by hitting
the reply button. If you wish to comment on more than one thread then
you should post more than one message - each one as a direct reply to
the original subject.

The advantage of using threads is that it's easier to keep track of the
threads (well that is why they are called that) of different
conversations.

Yes, I realize that this means sending more messages but if the headings
keep changing, or if people summarize their replies to multiple posts in
one single one then we are all forced to read every single message and
memorize everything that has been said in earlier posts. Not everyone is
expected to take part in, or even read, every topic and I'm sure that
most people don't have time to.
