> Hi, Anders, and TLS!
Talking about Pirsig's NOT being accepted by formal academia made me wonder
where he HAS been accepted.
1. Quotations from ZMM are all over the internet, in people's personal pages.
2. I've attributed the change in the standard for writing instruction books
and text books to Pirsig, (starting with Klutz Press's highly influential
how-to books-- "Juggling for the Complete Klutz" being the first) making a
personal connection with the reader; and the now-common viewpoint (everywhere
except in graduate school and professional research) that the author's point of
view and background should be present in a written piece, along with making
that connection to the reader.
What do you think?
