There is still hope! We all agree that we can approach that cutting
edge of reality in our preintellectual awareness. That awareness is
still "us." Remember Pirsig's model from Zen, Quality is the apogee,
then Romantic Quality, then Classic Quality, which is further subdivided
into subjects and objects.

When I "think" to move my finger, I'm in that classic domain, I believe.
That pulse is perhaps my preintellectual awareness.

There is an entire universe in which we exist before we think. We can
intellectualize about that prospect (as I am now) only in the past.
Imagine that the classic quality "I" always shows up to reality five
minutes late. The romantic quality "I" is only an instant or two late.
Zen Masters, for example, narrow that gap until there is no gap at all.

The two "I's" are your greater awareness spread out in time. Free will
is saved!
