Dear Lila Squad:
The discussion of this month's topic seems more complex than need be.
Pirsig has create a value-centered metaphysics meaning Quality = Reality =
Morality. Quality, reality, and morality can be separated on an
intellectual level into two groups - static and Dynamic Quality. Static
equals divided realities, Dynamic requals the Undivided Reality. Since all
divisions of an Undivided Reality are really false, Dynamic Quality is more
quality-filled, more real, and more moral. The static realm would have us
separate reality in various ways - subjects and objects, static and
Dynamic, etc. Yet all these separations hide That which exists beyond
separation - the Inseparable Whole. Thus the most qualified, most real, and
most moral act we as static creatures can engage in is uniting with Dynamic
Quality by transcending static qualities - that is, evolutionary
advancement. When life crawled out of the ocean, it opened possibilities
never dreamt of, and thus advanced static quality toward greater
dynamicism. And so we've been advancing ever since - from the atom to the
universe - we're loving, learning, living and in doing so uniting with ever
more Dynamic Quality. But in truth we are Dynamic Quality, but because we
only see these bags of skin with bio-chemical brain functions, we must
trudge along seeking greater dynamicism. And therein lies the fun of an
uncertain, confusing, and yes, static existence. Without a static reality,
we wouldn't experience the fun of liberation! So enjoy!
Sincerely,
Kev
