Dear Mary,
The organic matter life-death continuum is simply that-a continuum. I
don't believe there are start/stop moments. They only exist in human
perception.
At a dude ranch, I once saw a palomino die. The other horses in the
corral simply recognised that there was no more palomino there & ignored
the remains.
Perhaps it is wise to recognise that the person that lives now is not
the person that will die.
Pirsig's forward to the new edition of ZMM described the death of his
son Chris. It described the murderers as "two men, black." A new age
periodical reprinted the forward, but omitted the word, "black." Note
that "black " is not capitalized as is usually the case.
Human sadness for human losses,
Jeff
P.S. Since MOQ limits us to 5 posts a day, I'll try to fudge the issue by
answering other posts of yours & others here. Con su permisso, of course.
Dear Mary,
Greed resides in the biological level in so far as our genes are
programmed to be selfish.

Dear Dave,
Had Phaedrus asked for a definition of " poor quality," perhaps a brave
student would have responded, "Teachers who don't care." Good quality
would then be defined
as "Teachers who care," & Pirsig's metaphysics would have hit a speed
bump. May have been beneficial.
Take care,
Jeff
