Hi 3wDave, Platt, Horse, Erin, Roger, Scott, Marco, Wim and whoever I may
have missed,

I think I have an answer.
> Rog-[rules of logic]
> Jonathan- [the laws of laws]
> Platt-[logical consistency or math and logic
> 3WD- [the philosopy of laws]
The above group are all basically saying that intellect=metaphysics
(physical/structural philosophy).
Marco led the "moral revolt"
> Marco-[Human Rights]
> Wim-[Ethics]-"which underpins human rights and duties"
and later
> Horse [the right to life]
The position here seems to be intellect=moral philosophy.
The synthesis of these two rather different approaches is simply:
INTELLECT=PHILOSOPHY,
where philosophy represents an entire outlook on life - i.e. both structural
and moral.
Perhaps Intellect=Reason (proposed by Scott and Horse) captures the outlook
of the MoQ best.
Erin started to explain the difference between logic and reason, but I'd
like to add my own illustration.
Jonathan Swift's essay "Eat the Poor" (forgive any errors int he title -
it's a long time since highschool) was a splendid logical argument putting
the case for feeding the children of the poor to the upper classes as a way
of controlling population growth.
Of course, the very idea is completely UNREASONABLE because it offends our
moral sense (I assume that was Swift's motivation to write the piece). Logic
checks an argument against the starting premises, while reason questions the
premise and the outcome.
We all know how a computer fed inappropriate data can function impeccably to
produce absurd results. That's because computers don't reason - to do that
would involve going beyond normal computer logic (see MoQ site for links to
work of Ros Picard, MIT artificial intelligence researcher).
