Hi Dave,
Its basically my religion too.
I conceptualise it as a giving over to dynamic quality.
I don't feel this is a biological or social thing for me, as i am a poor
social animal, and can only tell you i feel it serves more than a biological
pattern?
Modern jazz does it for me, and progressive rock. Neil Young too. I saw Neil
play with pearl jam in a cow shed of a place in Ireland a few years ago -
tiny place used for training horses - and it was quite a dynamic evening.

Thelonious Monk used to go into a trance when he played and would very often
leave the piano and amble around his fellow musicians. Neil Young has
described how he trances while playing those extended one finger solos of
his. And his interest in Native American Indians is well known since the
Buffalo Springfield days.
As a piss poor lead guitarist myself, i have, on occasion, 'Gone off on one'
so i feel i may have an insight into that?
You can, 'Go off on one' just by listening.

I feel the old spliff has been used by so many musicians and people like that
for its enhancing ability to reveal DQ. It can all get a bit much though, and
society is not geared for it.
But subcultures can be, and Louis Armstrong used it every day of his life. My
word! What a talented and innovative bloke!

I pray every day or begin to die.
I think i know where you're coming from.

The mainstream bit can be of static concern, but if its good its hard to
ignore!

All the best,
Squonk.
