Taoism existed well before Pirsig, this is true. But Taoism is framed in
Romantic Quality terms and thus is not "well formed " for a Classic Quality
audience. Pirsig created a Classic Quality formatted Taoism, in a sense.
But he did something also very new and significant. The significance is
that there is a difference between using 'Tao' and using 'Quality'.
Quality-Taoism is different from Tao-Taoism. Thus Pirsig's system is not
exactly equivalent to Taoism, although the two are similar.
Actually we are not " arguing about the meaning of Quality ". We are
discussing and arguing on many occasions about the application of Quality in
specific instances. Significantly different than "arguing about the
meaning of Quality ".
Difference are significant,
