Hi Squonk

SQ:
If you feel 'public' equates to 'government' because government supports
public interest then i can appreciate why you feel i am ignoring your
question.

ROG:
No, you completely evade specific questions which have answers which don't
fit in your view. You have a long history in this forum with this and I can
gladly supply examples.

SQ:
Its a culture thing.
In my view, the last thing your government supports is the public.
What your government does is privilege a minority view of reality: The view
of those in power.

ROG:
Even a casual review of my commentary in this forum would lead one to see
that I believe priveledge and its abuses are endemic throughout history and
that progress -- to a great extent -- reflects control of such exploitation.
The US and similarly successful nations are the best examples to date of
success in minimizing the abuses of priveledge. The proof is in the reality
which they create compared to that they started with, or with competing
models. The proof is in the health, wealth, sustainability, literacy,
emancipation, science, technology, democracy, medical care etc, etc etc that
they provide to their citizenry (or allow their citizenry to create). People
in liberal free enterprise democracies are better off en masse today than any
time in the history of the world.*

SQ:
The notion of being supplied something of high value for free (PBS,
utilities, etc.) is alien to you because your culture wishes to know why
these things should not be commodified.
Commodification IS freedom for Americans; low taxes no National health
service free at point of use, etc. But freedom to be sold a dream and shipped
shit.

ROG:
Who are you arguing with? Commodification is freedom? If you want to win
straw arguments please direct them to someone who cares.

SQ:
You have no conception at all do you of why your country is considered to be
a shit hole the world over do you?

ROG:
Well now that you point it out I do. Thanks.

My theory, is that we** are reviled for our success. Especially when it
contradicts the product of your mental masturbations.

But I am frequently wrong,
Rog

* Please no environmental sustainability arguments. I have shown the
inadequacies of that argument a dozen times on this forum.

**I am answering in a collective "we" for modern liberal democracies. I do
not believe one nation is priveledged (ie Squonk's perfect "s&$t hole". Long
term I recognize that the Swiss or Canadian or Taiwanese model may be the
best. More likely, pieces of quality will be discovered in each.
