lawry,
>Andy, I would propose 'legislation' to eliminate known myths from churches.
>People are free to believe, study and advocate anything they want, IMHO.
>But
>I would not say that they -anyone-has a right to indoctrinate children with
>such, for it then deprives the children of that very right to study,
>believe
>and advocate. Does this make sense? I know that some will say that it
>violates the parent's 'right' to control a child, but you can see from my
>choice of words that I am not greatly impressed by this 'right.'
Elliot:
Im sure many will get you on this but ill say it anyways. Legislating
church? you use a pair of ' to cage that word, but im afraid they wont get
you out of it. That plan is astonishingly similar to maoism and lots of
other crazy facist(bad communist)/authoritarian plans.
second: Kids learn myths, thats what they do. you think if you hide "all
known myths" (namely, evey string of words ever put together) from churches
(the church of reason too i suppose), then the child will learn absolutly
nothing, and where does that put it for being able to study and advocate on
its own? I think kids should be taught EVERY concievable myth, or as many
as possible in the time alloted. this way one myth, such as creationism or
evolution, blind rationality (blind to Quality) or blind faith (blind to
reason) cannot dominate in the child. this is what provides the framework
for intellect to arise, not no myths, but so many myths that they begin to
spin fantastic patterns which transcend the myths themselves.
Although ZAMM is a classic approach to Quality, most classical thinkers dont
get the same point of view, many infact ignore Quality, transcendance, being
or whatever on a regular basis, mistaking maps for terrains all the time.
Given multiple maps of the same terrain, one must think intellectually.
Those with a religious AND rational background are much more apt i believe
to grasp the godhead than the believer in only one myth (which is what you
are infact proposing).
To the one truth behind both creationism and evolution,
Elliot
